The Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP)
Autumn House is pleased to partner with The Center for African American Poetry and Poetics for the annual CAAPP Book Prize. This publishing partnership allows AHP the opportunity to publish and promote work by a writer of African descent.
The prize will be awarded to a first or second book by a writer of African descent and is open to the full range of writers embodying African and African diasporic experiences. The book can be of any genre that is, or intersects with, poetry, including poetry, hybrid work, speculative prose, and/or translation. The winning manuscript will be published by Autumn House, and its author will be awarded $3,000.

PEN America
Autumn House is thrilled to announce our new publishing partnership with PEN America on the anthology, Best Debut Short Stories: The PEN America Dau Prize.
Every year, the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers recognizes 12 emerging writers for their debut short story published in a literary magazine, journal, or cultural website, and aims to support the launch of their careers as fiction writers. The 12 winning stories are selected by a committee of three judges who are respected experts in the art of the short story. The winning writers each receive a $2,000 cash prize, and their winning stories will be published by Autumn House Press in the annual anthology, Best Debut Short Stories: The PEN America Dau Prize.
The prize is generously supported by the family of the late Robert J. Dau, whose commitment to the literary arts made him a fitting namesake for this career-launching prize. Inspired by Dau’s hometown in northern Michigan and its proximity to Walloon Lake, where Ernest Hemingway spent the first 22 summers of his life and which provided much inspiration for his early stories, the prize promotes emerging voices and spotlights the next generation of fiction writers.
Submissions for the 2027 PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize are now open! The deadline for submissions is September 1.
Autumn House has partnered with many local and national literary, nonprofit, and educational programs over the years. As part of our mission, we are dedicated to supporting organizations that offer opportunities to writers of all ages and abilities, as well as partnering with organizations to develop and support events that help strengthen our local community and the larger literary community. Over the years, AHP has also had the pleasure of partnering with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Words Without Walls, the West Pennsylvania Writing Project, West Chester University Poetry Center, Write Pittsburgh (formerly GirlsWrite), and many more!
