Welcome to Autumn House Press. We believe literature is an affirmation of the deep and elemental range of our human experience, and our need for it is as crucial now as it ever has been. Autumn House is committed to publishing first books and lesser-known authors who will become the important voices of their generation as well as prominent poets and prose writers of our age. We pledge to edit this work with devotion and care, and to create beautiful books that are worthy of it.
We hope you’ll explore our selection of extraordinary poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and anthologies—for your own enjoyment, for classroom use, or as gifts for friends and colleagues. You can also learn about our annual Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction prizes, as well as our online journal, Coal Hill Review (please note that Autumn House accepts unsolicited manuscripts only through these contests). Or check out our upcoming readings and community outreach events on our online calendar.
Our Mission
Autumn House Press is a nonprofit corporation registered in the state of Pennsylvania whose mission is to publish and promote poetry and other fine literature.
- The press will concentrate on publishing the work of excellent contemporary writers who have a following among readers, but whose work has been overlooked by commercial publishers.
- We see our relationships with our authors as partnerships; we will support them by ensuring their books are edited with care and are available in a variety of locations.
- In the belief that a book is not only a readable text but also an object of art, the press is dedicated to producing beautifully designed, well-manufactured books on acid-free paper, as well as electronic texts of comparable quality. However, this dedication to quality will be balanced against considerations of cost in order to make the books affordable to all.
- We believe art and literature are essential to the growth of a community and strive to enhance the neighborhoods around us by offering free-to-the-public readings and literary events.
