She and her husband, Todd, live in the Ozark Mountains near the town of Mountain View, Arkansas. They have one grown son, Brooke. Since 1991, she has worked as the Writer-in-Residence at Lyon College, where she was awarded the Lamar Williamson Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
